Based on the opening box office, it seems fans are ready to forget the 2022 Oscars slap heard round the world! Will Smith has laid low since slapping Academy Awards host Chris Rock, but this weekend saw the North American premiere of Bad Boys: Ride or Die, opening to the tune of $56M according to Sony Pictures.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is the first wide release for Smith since the scandal and the fourth picture in the franchise where he reprises his role alongside Martin Lawrence. Initial reviews for the Rated-R film have been positive with fans on Rotten Tomatoes coming in at 97%.

The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. It did a ten city world premiere tour including Dubai, Riyadh, Madrid, Berlin, Mexico City, Brussels, Amsterdam, New York, Miami, and of course Los Angeles, opening globally June 7th.

Smith even made a surprise visit arriving on a doubler decker bus to the Los Angeles premiere performing his hit song “Miami,” and stopped by a Cinemark screening this week in Baldwin Hills.

While the Academy might not be ready to welcome back Smith with open arms, fans are clearly ready to be his ride or die!
