New Delhi: A chilling incident unfolded on a New York street last week, where a masked assailant subjected a woman to a horrifying assault. Video footage of the attack, which has since gone viral, captured the assailant trailing the woman before swiftly incapacitating her with a belt, dragging her between parked cars, where the assault allegedly occurred.

The disturbing event occurred on May 1st, around 3 am, on a Bronx Street. Despite efforts by the New York Police Department’s Special Victims Unit to apprehend the perpetrator, he remains at large as of Thursday, according to a report by the New York Post.

The victim, whose cooperation with authorities has ceased, was promptly transported to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition, as confirmed by The Washington Post. Police sources suggest a disturbing possibility that the attacker may have been familiar with the victim’s daily routine, hinting at a potentially premeditated act.cWhile investigations are ongoing, authorities are facing challenges in apprehending the suspect and gathering further information due to the victim’s reluctance to engage with police.

American woman gangraped in Kerala

Last year, an American woman, who had visited India and was living at an ashram nearby, was reportedly gangraped buy two men.  The accused individuals were apprehended and an FIR been filed against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 376D (gang rape) and 376(2)(n) (repeatedly raping the same woman), as confirmed by the police.

The incident took place on July 31 while the 44-year-old woman was seated alone at a beach near the ashram. According to the woman’s statement to the police, the men approached her and offered to share cigarettes. Upon her refusal, they then offered her rum.

After consuming the alcohol, she became intoxicated, following which the men allegedly escorted her on a bike to a nearby vacant house where she was gangraped, as per the police report citing the woman’s complaint. The woman filed a complaint on the night of August 1. She had arrived in Kerala on July 22, according to officials.
