Young Woman and the Sea Trailer

“C’mon girl, kick your feet!” Disney has revealed an official trailer for their summer movie Young Woman and the Sea, based on the true story of the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel. It’s set to open at the end of May and we’ve been waiting to finally see a trailer. “21 miles and a nice day for a swim.” Daisy Ridley stars as Trudy Ederle, an American woman who grew up in Manhattan and learned to swim in New Jersey. After winning a gold medal at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, she eventually made the incredible English Channel swim from France to England in 1926 at the age of 20. This also co-stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler. It’s directed by Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning (of Kon-Tiki and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), adapted from Glenn Stout’s book, and produced by the Jerry Bruckheimer, making it a major Disney release arriving this summer. This is fantastic trailer, the score in it almost makes it seem like they’re going for Oppenheimer grandness. Aside from all the Nyad comparisons, this looks even better than Nyad.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Joachim Rønning’s Young Woman and the Sea, from YouTube:

In this extraordinary true story, Daisy Ridley stars as accomplished swimmer Gertrude “Trudy” Ederle, who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the U.S. Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement – a 21-mile trek from France to England across the English Channel. Young Woman and the Sea is directed by Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning, director of the films Bandidas, Max Manus: Man of War, Kon-Tiki, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Doomsday, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. He’s also currently filming Tron: Ares for Disney. The screenplay is written by Jeff Nathanson, based on the book “Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World” by Glenn Stout. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson. Disney will release Young Woman and the Sea in theaters nationwide starting on May 31st, 2024 this summer. Who want to watch?
