The Last Dance’ Director Teases Knull’s Role In The Sequel & Marvel Future

This may only be the beginning for Knull! The director of Venom: The Last Dance hints at a future for the villain after the highly-anticipated sequel.

The reveal that Knull would be appearing in Venom: The Last Dance exploded the Marvel community with excitement. However, fans quickly began to worry about how much screen time the villain will have given how chocked full the sequel already is. However, according to director Kelly Marcel, the film only sets to lay the foundation for the iconic character.

“We’re in spoiler territory now and we hope some of the fun of watching this movie is not knowing what will happen,” Marcel told IGN in a recent interview. “But trust me, we know full well how important Knull is to the fans, so just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope we are doing the same for Knull. The King in Black is way too powerful for ‘one and done’.”

“This film introduces Knull, but it just touches the beginnings of his story. Marvel’s greatest film villains are developed over time. Here, Knull is the threat lurking behind the danger that tests the absolute limits of Eddie and Venom’s partnership — but it’s their relationship that remains the heart of this story.”

This is certainly a relief, given Sony’s history of smushing too many characters into a single film. Venom: The Last Dance appears to be a passing of a torch, in a way. Knull will be taking over as the mascot of the symbiotes in Spider-Man’s villain universe, while also paving the way for future films after the sequel ends the studios’ biggest money maker.

Venom: The Last Dance Is Only The Beginning For Knull

Yet it seems Knull isn’t just going to be a latent shadow creeping across Sony’s Spider-Man movies. It’s clear the studio has big plans for the villain after Venom: The Last Dance. According to Kelly Marcel, they always knew that Knull was going to be a big deal for fans, and they want to give the character space to be done right.

“We were always aware of Knull, but knew that we needed to lay the foundation of the Venom character, and his relationship with Eddie, before introducing him. This is just the beginning for Knull.”

This lines up with recent reports that Knull will serve as the main villain for the next Spider-Man film, finally bringing Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock to blows with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker after Venom: The Last Dance caps off his trilogy. While it’s unclear what projects he’ll appear in until then, it’s clear Knull’s influence is far from over.

Venom: The Last Dance opens in theaters on October 25, 2024. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Venom series and makes sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
