The Doctor and Ruby Sunday Are Reuniting Sooner Than We Thought

Doctor Who fans rejoice! Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday will reunite for a fun new pair of projects this November. Gatwa took up the mantle of the Doctor in Season 14 of the modern era of Doctor Who, with Gibson portraying his trusted companion. The latest outing of the long-running British science fiction series received high praise from critics upon its debut, but was met with a mixed bag of responses from viewers. Despite the criticism, it’s already been renewed for a 15th season, which is expected to premiere on the BBC and Disney+ in 2025.

Per the official Doctor Who website, Gatwa’s incarnation of the Doctor and Gibson’s Ruby Sunday will reunite for a pair of audiobooks set to debut on November 7 from Penguin Random House. The new adventures see the duo travel from 1958 England to present day America, and were written by Niel Bushnell and Darren Jones respectively. While the actors won’t be voicing their characters in the new audio projects, it will still be fun to hear them team up again as a unit before they’re joined in the next season by incoming companion Varada Sethu.

Doctor Who

4.5/5

Originally premiered in 1963, Doctor Who is a sci-fi series that follows a powerful being known as a Time Lord, referred to as the Doctor. Using an interdimensional time-traveling ship known as the TARDIS, the Doctor travels time and space with various companions as they solve multiple problems and help avert catastrophe as much as they almost cause it. Though the Doctor is always the same character, they experience regenerations, allowing them to be recast every few seasons as a unique immortal being with new personality traits.

First up on the docket is Doctor Who: On Ghost Beach, which was written by Bushnell and will be read by Susan Twist, who played the recurring woman this past season. The chilling adventure finds the Doctor and Ruby on a beach in County Durham, England, in 1958, investigating a phenomenon that’s causing the locals to see ghostly apparitions. Check out the synopsis below.

“The TARDIS arrives in County Durham, England, in 1958. Seaham Chemical Beach was once a scene of heavy industry, long since abandoned, but now local residents are having nightmares and seeing apparitions.

It isn’t long before the Doctor and Ruby are affected by the beach’s peculiar atmosphere. As they begin to forget exactly who they are, Ruby hears a distant voice calling her on.

Whose memories are filling the travellers’ heads, and what is the significance of Ghost Beach, in the Sea of Despair, on the planet Farfrom? Even more importantly – who is Reg?”

Next up is Doctor Who: Sting of the Sasquatch, which takes place in present-day America in the Pacific Northwest, and sees the Doctor and Ruby come face-to-face with the elusive cryptid known as Bigfoot. Written by Jones, this marks the first time the creature has made an appearance in the franchise in any form, with Genesis Lynea – who played Harriet Arbinger in Season 14 – bringing the audio tale to life.

“In a National Park in North-West America, the Doctor and Ruby are pursued by large, ape-like creatures who seem to literally disappear into the trees. When Ruby falls ill after apparently being stung, the Doctor believes the infection is extra-terrestrial in origin.

They meet Dixie and Greg, two Bigfoot hunters determined to track down the mythical Sasquatch. Standing in their way is Ranger Peone, who’s adamant that the forest is too dangerous to explore. Dozens of people have vanished, or reappeared with no memory, in the last month alone.

Then the ape creatures kidnap Ruby, and the Doctor is determined to both save her life and solve the mystery of the Sasquatch.”
