Sahil Chauhan hits fastest T20 century off 27 balls for Estonia against Cyprus

Estonia batter Sahil Chauhan hit the fastest ever T20 century from just 27 balls against Cyprus.

Chauhan, 32, broke the record set by West Indies batter Chris Gayle, who reached three figures from 30 balls during the Indian Premier League in 2013.

It was the second game played between the two sides on Monday in Episkopi, Cyprus, with Chauhan registering a golden duck in Estonia’s three-wicket win in the first.

The previous record for fastest international T20 century – 33 balls – was set by Namibia’s Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton against Nepal in February.

Chauhan finished unbeaten on 144 from 41 balls, including 18 sixes, which is also a T20 international record.

His innings helped Estonia beat Cyprus by six wickets, chasing a target of 192 in just 13 overs.

Estonia lost both openers early and slipped to 9-2 before Chauhan’s onslaught.

Bilal Masud was the only other batter to reach double figures with 21 not out as Chauhan’s knock accounted for almost 75% of Estonia’s runs.

The record for the fastest T20 century in women’s cricket is Deandra Dottin’s 38-ball ton against South Africa in 2010.
