‘Natural enemies’ China and Russia brought together by US Democratic leaders: Donald Trump



In his opening remarks and exchange with reporters that ran more than an hour, Trump bounced between biting criticism of his opponent and her running-mate selection, unfounded allegations that Biden’s replacement in the race was unconstitutional and pledges to undertake mass deportations of illegal immigrants.
He also asserted that no one died in the January 6, 2021 assault on the US Capitol by his supporters, an issue for which Trump was indicted and faces a legal case that has involved the US Supreme Court and is central to Democratic election campaigns.

At least seven people died in connection with the attack, including a Trump supporter who was shot by a police officer.

“I think I’m gonna get along great with China. President Xi of China and I were very good friends. We met right here,” Trump told reporters in his estate’s gilded event space, where he sat with the Chinese leader in April 2017.

“We had a beautiful sofa there as opposed to what we have right now. Right now we have you.”

Trump and Xi “had a very good relationship until Covid, and I held him responsible for Covid. It broke up our relationship, but I think we’re gonna have a great relationship”, the Republican nominee added.

“And I think it’s going to be mutually beneficial, but we cannot have it when China is taking advantage of the United States and this is what they were doing.”

Trump then reiterated a standard campaign line, suggesting that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would never have happened if he was president and that former US president Barack Obama and Biden pushed Beijing and Moscow together.

Democrats “allowed China and Russia to do the impossible: combine. They’re natural enemies. They always have been because China needs more land and Russia has it”, Trump said.

“And because of Obama – it started with him and then Biden because he didn’t know what the hell he was doing – they’ve now become one force.”

Military cooperation between the two countries has made headlines recently, and expanding economic ties has prompted a series of sanctions by the Biden administration, which alleges that such activity has supported Russia’s war on Ukraine, now in its third year.
Last week, two Chinese military transport planes were spotted by satellite at a Russian airport around the time Chinese and Russian warplanes patrolled near Alaska last month, according to a new report, in the latest sign of closer military cooperation between Beijing and Moscow.
