‘Deadpool And Wolverine’ Makes History With Release Date In China

Deadpool and Wolverine are making their way to China! The film’s newest confirmed release date makes history when it comes to Marvel’s raunchiest franchise.

China has always been a massive market for movies. Securing a release there means a massive bump to the global box office. However, due to their strict censorship laws, not every movie makes it across the pond. The Deadpool franchise is no exception, with the first film never being shown in theaters and its sequel only greenlit following a PG-13 cut long after its initial run.

However, it seems Deadpool and Wolverine has managed to make history by securing a release date in China on the same day as the rest of the world: July 26. This simultaneous release is nearly unheard of with movies containing this much graphic content. However, that won’t mean the project is free of censorship.

Deadpool And Wolverine Faces Some Cuts

There’s been no official word on whether Deadpool and Wolverine will be cut for its release in China. However, anyone familiar with the situation knows that the film won’t be making the date unscathed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, these cuts won’t disrupt the film’s story.

“Disney hasn’t said publicly whether censorship changes will be made to Deadpool & Wolverine as part of a release agreement with China’s Film Bureau. But anyone familiar with both the Deadpool franchise and Chinese regulators’ usual MO will know that at least some tweaks can be expected to the movie’s graphic violence and maximally colorful language. Sources close to the film say no cuts will be made that alter ‘the integrity of the storytelling’ or the ‘Deadpool spirit.’”

It’s good to know that Disney won’t completely destroy the content of Deadpool and Wolverine just to land a release date in China. Not only for the integrity of the film, but to ensure that audiences all across the world are able to experience the film (as close as posisble to) how it’s meant to be seen.
