Charlotte Bankes: GB star wins snowboard cross gold to keep World Cup title hopes alive

Great Britain’s Charlotte Bankes kept her chances of a third straight overall snowboard cross World Cup title alive with victory in Mount St Anne, Canada.

Bankes, 28, passed French rival Chloe Trespeuch in Saturday’s final to take gold – a fourth victory of the season.

After a slow start to the campaign, Bankes sits 85 points behind Trespeuch in the overall standings.

But she retains a slim chance of retaining her crown in Sunday’s final race of the season.

For that to happen, Bankes would need another victory coupled with a bad result for Trespeuch.

“I think it’s decided so, I just need to concentrate on my riding and build the runs one by one and have fun out there and give it my best,” said Bankes.

Trespeuch’s compatriot Lea Casta came third in her first top-three finish of the season.
