BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 3. The Baku
Initiative Group and the Maore Committee of the French-colonized
Mayotte Island inked a cooperation agreement, Trend reports.
The document was signed by the Executive Director of the Baku
Initiative Group Abbas Abbasov and a member of the Committee for
the Struggle for the Independence of Mayotte Island Ahmed
Thabet.
To note, an international conference on the French occupation of
the island of Mayotte was held in Baku under the organization of
the Baku Initiative Group.
The conference entitled “Illegal French Occupation of Mayotte
Island of Comoros Union” was attended by social and political
figures of Mayotte Island, representatives of scientific circles,
human rights activists, heads of non-governmental organizations,
members of political parties struggling against the occupation of
Mayotte Island by France and striving for the return of Mayotte
Island to the Union of Comoros, as well as representatives of the
diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan.
The conference discussed the history of the French colonization
of the Comoros, the occupation of Mayotte Island by France and the
resulting damage to the Comorians, the geopolitical and economic
interests of France’s colonial policy in the region, as well as the
position of international organizations regarding the Mayotte
Island of the Union of the Comoros.
