SAPS nabs 95 suspects and recover vehicles and firearms

Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 95 suspects, recovering 49 motor vehicles and eight firearms between October 11 and October 17.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 44 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, armed robbery, common robbery, fraud, theft, possession of stolen property, possession of house burglary equipment, housebreaking, use of motor vehicle without owner’s consent and malicious damage to property.

Other cases include kidnapping, murder, business burglary, hijacking, hindering in the carrying out of official duties, crimen injuria, contravention of a protection order, illegal immigrant, attempted theft of motor vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol.

A total of 49 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 11 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Eight unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying six arrests. In further policing, 34 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroin, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation continues in these cases. The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
