In the hours before his death, we’ve learned Liam Payne really went off the rails.
The One Direction member fell off the wagon, took a lot of drugs, including the incredibly dangerous “pink cocaine,” partied with girls the local police identified as prostitutes, got aggressive with strangers, smashed up his belongings… And then of course jumped off the fourth story balcony of his hotel room to his death.
This downward spiral apparently started when his girlfriend left him alone in Buenos Aires.

From what we’ve learned, Kate Cassidy had been in Argentina with the singer for a couple weeks, arriving on September 30. But after a while, she’d had enough vacation. She wanted to go home to Miami and see her dog. A friend told Page Six on Thursday
“She wanted to be home in her own bed with her dog. She wanted to come home… She planned a certain time away from home, and he wanted to extend it indefinitely. She wasn’t ready to do that.”
It makes perfect sense to us. You can’t stay on vacation forever — even if he wanted her to. One source said it began to feel like a “hostage situation.” She just wanted to see her dog! And so, despite his protestations, on October 12, Kate left. And he collapsed. Four days later he was dead.
Everyone is devastated by Liam’s death, but for her… this will “haunt her,” says the friend — because she made a choice:
“She did what she needed to do at the time. She had no idea what was going to happen. I can tell you that her decision will haunt her for the rest of her life.”
We can’t even imagine how Kate must be feeling. She would already be devastated by her lover’s shocking death… and a bit betrayed by some of what he got up to when she wasn’t around. But trying to face the guilt of thinking maybe things would have been different if she had made a different choice. It’s so unfair. The friend said:
“She feels bad. Everyone in her life is saying that it’s not her fault. You can’t babysit a 30-year-old grown man 24/7/365. But she’s not yet in a place to hear that.”
Hopefully soon she’ll let that in. Because really, this is NOT her fault!
She even tried to help him after leaving! The confidant revealed she kept begging him to come home to her in Florida, but he just refused:
“She tried, really. But he wasn’t receptive. She will forever be the villain for abandoning him, but that’s not what happened.”
We hope soon she is able to really internalize the truth — that this wasn’t her fault. Ultimately he was responsible for his choices.
