MotoGP: Francesco Bagnaia retakes championship lead with Austria wins

“The pace was incredible,” said Bagnaia, who has claimed the last two MotoGP championships.

“I think me and Jorge did something unbelievable in terms of speed and consistency. I am very happy. Three times in a row we are winning here [in Austria]. It is fantastic.”

Spaniard Martin was in pole position after breaking the lap record on Saturday, and shared his “frustration” at finishing second.

“I thought today I could finish with Pecco [Bagnaia] until the end, to fight with him,” Martin said.

“I got the second position. It is not what I expected today. Hopefully we can improve on the next one.”

Bagnaia’s Ducati team-mate Enea Bastianini remains third in the standings after fourth and third place finishes in the sprint and main races respectively.

The Aragon Grand Prix in Spain is next in the calendar, and will take place on 1 September.
