“Baseball is the only game that death is jealous of. Baseball defeats time. Only baseball has the possibility of going on forever.” Vertical has revealed an official trailer for an indie dramedy film called Reverse the Curse, a baseball story about a father who loves the Boston Red Sox. It’s directed by David Duchovny and also adapted from Duchovny’s own book titled “Bucky F*cking Dent“, an ode to the bond between father and son. The film follows Ted, aka Mr. Peanut, who moves in with his father Marty when he is diagnosed with lung cancer. To keep him happy and alive, Ted enlists Marty’s grief counselor Mariana and friends to fake a Red Sox winning streak using the help of a few pals. Starring David Duchovny, Logan Marshall-Green, Stephanie Beatriz, Jason Beghe, Evan Handler, Santo Fazio, Daphne Rubin-Vega, and Pamela Adlon. This initially premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival last year, and it also played at the Philly & Austin Film Festivals. Reviews seem positive but the footage doesn’t look promising. Reverse the Curse follows Ted (Logan Marshall-Green), a failed writer-turned-Yankees Stadium peanut slinger who moves back home after learning of the failing health of his Red Sox-obsessed father, Marty (David Duchovny). While Marty strives to make amends for his past, his health drops abruptly whenever his beloved Sox lose a game. To keep his dad’s spirits up, Ted decides to take matters into his own hands and manufactures a winning streak with the help of a crew of neighborhood pals. In the process, he strikes up a bond with Marty’s charming “Death Specialist,” Marianna (Stephanie Beatriz), and the prospect of a new love reignites his ambitions. An ode to the bond between father and son, this warm and witty film demonstrates how life truly belongs to the losers, and the longshots are the ones usually worth betting on.

Reverse the Curse is written and directed by the American actor / filmmaker David Duchovny, making his second feature film after directing House of D previously, plus episodes of “The X-Files”, “Californication”, “Aquarius”. Adapted from the book “Bucky F*cking Dent” also written by David Duchovny first published in 2016. Produced by Jordan Beckerman, Jordan Yale Levine, and Duchovny. Vertical will release Duchovny’s Reverse the Curse film in select US theaters + on VOD starting June 14th, 2024 this summer. Look good?
