Trailer Tuesday: ‘Mufasa:The Lion King’

Disney’s beloved classic tale The Lion King is giving Simba’s father Mufasa, an origin story.

Mufasa: The Lion King is an upcoming new musical drama cgi film directed by Barry Jenkins for Disney. The film is written by Jeff Nathanson, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pastel Productions. It is the live-action styled photorealistic animated prequel to the similarly created 2019 remake of the original 1994 film The Lion King. 

The upcoming film is stacked with a star-studded all star cast. Filling some might big shoes is Aaron Pierre as the voice of Mufasa, the role previously voiced by James Earl Jones in previous Lion King movies. Other exciting additions to the cast include: Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Taka, a lion prince with a bright future who accepts Mufasa into his family as a brother; Tiffany Boone as Sarabi; and Mads Mikkelsen as Kiros, a formidable lion with big plans for his pride. Reprising their roles from the 2019 live action “Lion King” remake are John Kani as Rafiki, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, Donald Glover as Simba and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala. Disney also revealed yesterday, that Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy Carter will voice Kiara, the daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala.
