Smash burger tacos | Slimming World Blog


Hand’s up who’s heard of a smash burger? This trendy way to cook a patty makes it extra crispy and flavoursome. Add a taco, cheese and burger sauce to the mix and you’ve found a new slimming-friendly fakeaway favourite.

Slimming World smash burger tacos recipe 

serves 4 (1 taco per person) 
11½ Syns per serving (or 5½ Syns if using two cheese singles as a Healthy Extra ‘a’ choice) 
ready in 45 minutes 

What you need: 

For the smash burger taco: 

low-calorie cooking spray 
500g lean beef mince (5% fat or less) 
1 onion, finely chopped 
2 garlic cloves, crushed  
4 mini tortilla wraps  
8 cheese singles slices  ½ iceberg lettuce, roughly shredded 
8 gherkins, sliced 
2 tomatoes, roughly chopped 

For the SW super sauce: 

3 level tbsp extra-light mayonnaise  
5 tbsp fat-free natural fromage frais 
1 level tbsp American-style mustard  
2 tbsp tomato purée 
2 tsp white wine vinegar 
½ tsp garlic salt 
¼ tsp onion granules 
¼ tsp sweet smoked paprika 

What you do: 

1. Preheat your oven to 150˚C/fan 130˚C/gas 2. 

2. Spray a large non-stick frying pan with low-calorie cooking spray and put it over a high heat. In a bowl, mix the beef mince with the onion and garlic, then divide the mixture into 4 portions. Add a portion to the pan and press down with a spatula to make a burger shape that’s just smaller than your tortilla wraps. 

3. Lay a wrap on top of the burger and cook for 7-8 minutes, or until the burger’s cooked through. Drain off any fat and flip the burger over. Season lightly, then put 2 cheese slices on top to melt. Pop it on a baking tray in the oven to keep warm. Repeat until you’ve made 4 burgers. 

4. While the burgers are cooking, put all the super sauce ingredients in a bowl with 4 tbsp water and whisk to combine. 

5. Mix the lettuce, gherkins and tomatoes in a bowl. Divide the taco burgers between plates, spoon some of the salad on top and drizzle with the super sauce. Serve with the rest of the salad on the side.
