Emily Armstrong of the band Dead Sara, named new lead singer of Linkin Park. The band announced the news Thursday during a live performance in Los Angeles.
In addition, Colin Brittain, a songwriter/producer for G Flip, Illenium and One OK Rock, will also join the band as a drummer.
The announcement also included their first new single announcement in seven years, “The Emptiness Machine,” and the lead track for an upcoming album dubbed “From Zero.”
Linkin Park — Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix and Joe Hahn along with its two new members — will also embark on a six-date arena tour stopping in Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul and Bogota.
In a press release, the band shared that they “quietly began meeting up again in recent years” and “rather than ‘trying to restart the band,’” they worked with numerous musicians and “found a special kinship with Armstong and Brittain.”
This will be the band’s first new music since the death of bandmate Chester Bennington in 2017.
About the new era, Shinoda continued, “Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero. This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future — embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life. It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, our friends, our family, and our fans. We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years, and excited about the journey ahead.”
