Derek Connolly To Write Chris Hemsworth’s ‘Transformers’ & ‘G.I. Joe’ Crossover Movie

Derek Connolly, known for his work on high-profile projects like Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, has been tapped to pen the screenplay for Paramount’s upcoming Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie, as reported by TheWrap. Set to star Chris Hemsworth, the project will blend the iconic universes of these two beloved franchises.

The crossover movie will be produced by a powerhouse team including Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy, with Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment serving as executive producers. The project does not yet have a director.

What to expect from the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie

Paramount’s intent to intertwine the Transformers and G.I. Joe worlds was hinted at in 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which successfully rejuvenated the franchise with a global box office haul of $439 million. The crossover potential was initially teased in Marvel Comics during the 1980s when G.I. Joe and Transformers characters first shared adventures.

The groundwork for the crossover was laid in the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts post-credits scene featuring Noah (played by Anthony Ramos), who, after saving Earth with the Autobots and Maximals, returns to New York. Noah’s quest for a new job leads him to an interview with Agent Burke (Michael Kelly), a character revealed to be associated with G.I. Joe rather than the previously expected Sector 7.

With Chris Hemsworth at the helm, the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover is poised to be a major cinematic event. As demonstrated at its CinemaCon presentation, Paramount Pictures is determined to leverage its extensive portfolio of IP — despite ongoing speculation about potential mergers.
